Analysis: those with eating disorders face increased risk of death
In a recent analysis of studies published over a 45 year period, researchers at Loughborough University in the UK found that for those struggling with Anorexia, their risk of death increases fivefold. Those with Bulimia and EDNOS faced twice the risk of death as someone without an eating disorder. 20% of those with Anorexia who died over the period studied died from suicide.
Those with highest risk of death included:
- People diagnosed with Anorexia later in life [To read about eating disorders in later life, click here and view the Winter 2010 issue of our newsletter]
