Free Annual Wellness Visit for Medicare Beneficiaries
Those with Medicare are now eligible for a free annual “wellness visit.” Under the Affordable Care Act, which is the health care reform law, beneficiaries will receive a full physical exam, a review of medical and family history, and a personal wellness plan that is focused on prevention.
This is good news for those struggling with eating disorders who have Medicare, but who don’t have the means to pay for doctor’s visits. The cost of eating disorder treatment prevents many from seeking and receiving help. While people often need extended treatment, this is an important first step in starting patients down the road to recovery, not to mention in detecting and preventing eating disorders before they reach a more critical stage.
